Lyte raises $165M at a $1.6bn valuation to fix how robots see

Lyte AI, a Sunnyvale company founded by former Apple engineers, raised a $165 million Series C at a $1.6 billion post-money valuation, announced September 2, 2026. Maverick Silicon led. Fidelity Management & Research, which led the Series B, returned alongside Atreides Management, Key1 Capital and Ora Global. Total raised to date is $272 million.

The company builds perception systems intended to give robots accurate sensing of their surroundings — the measurement problem that sits beneath every manipulation policy and every navigation stack.

Why it matters

The capital flowing into embodied AI in 2026 has concentrated on two ends of the stack: foundation models that decide what to do, and humanoid hardware that does it. The sensing layer in between has been comparatively quiet, and it is where a great many demonstrations quietly fail — a policy that generalises well is still bounded by whether the robot knows the pose of the object it is reaching for.

A $1.6 billion mark on a perception company is a bet that this layer stays a separate product rather than getting absorbed into whoever ships the robot. That is not settled. Vertically integrated humanoid makers have every incentive to own sensing, and component suppliers have been squeezed before. The counter-argument is fleet heterogeneity: if the industry ends up running many morphologies, a sensing stack that is not tied to one body has a market that a house-built one does not.
