Neura Robotics and the Technical University of Munich have opened TUM RoboGym, a robot training facility at LabCampus near Munich Airport, Robotics & Automation News reported on October 28, 2026. The site cost about €17 million, of which Neura contributed about €11 million. It covers more than 2,300 m² and is initially planned to run for three years. Munich Airport’s release said it opens with about 100 humanoid and service robots in 48 training cells.

Why it matters: robot foundation models need data from real tasks, and most large robot data sites so far are in China. This is one of the largest announced in Europe.

Key Facts

  • Investment: about €17M; Neura about €11M (reported Oct 28, 2026)
  • Site: 2,300+ m² at LabCampus, Munich Airport; initial three-year programme
  • Fleet at opening: about 100 humanoid and service robots in 48 training cells (Munich Airport release)
  • 4NE1 Gen 4: 20% lighter, textile skin, new hands, Neuron AI; preparing for series production

What happens in the RoboGym?

Companies bring real tasks for robots to learn and test. Industries named include automotive, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, packaging, logistics, agriculture and care; early tasks include handling cardboard boxes, filling bottles and loading wooden components. Training mixes real robot operation, human demonstrations captured with sensor suits, motion capture and teleoperation, and simulation. TUM’s Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI) is the academic partner.

What is new in 4NE1 Gen 4?

Neura says the fourth-generation humanoid is 20% lighter than its predecessor, with a slimmer body, a sensorised textile skin, new hands and limbs that respond to their surroundings on their own. It runs Neuron AI, Neura’s perception-language-action model using vision, touch, force and sound. Neura says it is being prepared for series production. Absolute weight, payload, degrees of freedom and price were not disclosed.

Where next?

The Munich site is the first in a planned network of Neura Gyms, with further sites in Europe, the US and China and another German facility with RWTH Aachen. For the wider data race, see China’s robot data factories.
