UBTech Robotics and FAW-Volkswagen have agreed a strategic cooperation to develop and test humanoid robot applications for factory logistics, UBTech said on its official WeChat account on October 8, 2026. The companies plan demonstration applications and say they will promote humanoid solutions for smart manufacturing.
No robot model, plant, unit count, order value or timetable was disclosed for the new work.
Key Facts
- Strategic cooperation on humanoid logistics applications announced by UBTech on October 8, 2026
- Earlier work: UBTech’s Walker S Lite trained on vehicle quality inspection at FAW-Volkswagen’s Qingdao factory
- No units, value, sites or dates disclosed
- UBTech’s Liuzhou plant, opened in September, is designed for 10,000 humanoids a year
What changes from the earlier work?
The task. UBTech’s previous work with FAW-Volkswagen put a Walker S Lite into vehicle quality inspection at the Qingdao factory, where UBTech says the robot connected to the plant’s automation control system. Logistics, moving parts and materials to the line, is a larger category of work in a car plant and the one most humanoid makers are now targeting, because it is repetitive and already instrumented. It is also where wheeled robots and conventional automation compete hardest.
Car plants are the most common setting in our tracker of humanoid factory deployments, and most entries there are pilots. This announcement adds a second application at an existing partner, which is a step past a one-off trial, but without numbers it cannot be counted as a deployment.
Why UBTech needs announcements like this
Capacity is running ahead of named demand. UBTech’s Liuzhou factory is sized for 10,000 humanoids a year, several times what the company has sold, as our coverage of its first-half 2026 humanoid revenue showed. Each carmaker that extends a trial into a second task is evidence for the order book UBTech needs to fill that plant. The next useful disclosure would be the number of robots and the site.
