Xiaomi brought CyberOne to IFA with 66 degrees of freedom

Xiaomi made its first appearance at IFA in Berlin on September 3, 2026, and used it to show an updated CyberOne humanoid. The machine has 66 degrees of freedom, up from 21 in the original 2022 version, and stands about 1.70 metres at roughly 66 kilograms. Xiaomi’s stand ran to about 3,300 square metres with roughly 380 products.

The company said the robot has been deployed internally on a nut-fastening line at its electric vehicle factory, and that task success there rose from 90% to 98% over roughly four months. Those are company-reported figures from an internal deployment, not independently audited.

What 90 to 98 actually means

A humanoid that completes a repetitive fastening task 98 times in 100 is still failing twice a shift-hour’s worth of cycles on a line built around parts-per-million defect rates. The useful reading is not the absolute number but the slope: a captive deployment on one task, improving over four months, is the loop that matters — collect, retrain, redeploy on the same station.

That loop is why carmakers keep showing up in humanoid coverage. They own the line, absorb the downtime, and have an engineering organisation that can label failures. BYD and XPeng are running the same play in China; Hyundai is running it in Korea. A consumer-electronics reveal at IFA is the marketing surface on top of it.

Why it matters

Degrees of freedom triple when a company decides the robot has to manipulate rather than pose. The jump from 21 to 66 is a statement that CyberOne is now being engineered for work, and it comes with the cost profile that implies — more actuators, more reducers, more thermal management, all drawn from the same constrained component pool every other maker is bidding into.
